What Manchester United said about Marcus Rashford and Rúben Amorim ‘meeting’ as Barcelona close in

Marcus Rashford has been spending time at Carrington for the start of pre-season despite plans to leave Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United are preparing to part ways with Academy graduate Marcus Rashford this summer, following his fall from favour under Ruben Amorim last season.

The 27-year-old forward spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Aston Villa, but the Midlands side opted not to trigger the £40 million buy-option included in the deal.

Rashford’s preferred destination is Barcelona, though any potential move to the Spanish giants is likely to materialise only toward the end of the transfer window.

After being stripped of the club’s iconic No. 10 shirt—now handed to new signing Matheus Cunha—Rashford has reported to Carrington for pre-season this week but has yet to train with the first-team squad.

Despite the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future, earlier reports indicated that the England international was keen to complete a full pre-season with United.

What United said about Rashford and Amorim ‘meeting’

Rashford’s presence at Carrington has led to some questions over the possibility of him returning to the squad, or having meetings with Amorim.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, club sources have denied that Rashford was not discussing his future at the training ground.

Rashford is said to simply be at Carrington to conduct his own individual training sessions. Him and Amorim have not spoken this week.

The 27-year-old is among a group of five players to be given extended time off to find transfers elsewhere but is the only one to have voluntarily returned to Carrington.

Rashford is Barcelona’s no.1 target

Rashford wants to join Barcelona and it seems like a move that is becoming more likely as time moves on during this transfer window.

According to recent reports, Hansi Flick has given his green light for a potential deal for the United forward and Barcelona are going to try to sign him soon.

It has been claimed that Rashford is now their clear number one target and talks are ongoing for a potential move, but it remains to be seen whether they will actually make a permanent offer.

United want £40 million for the forward and that would help them make more signings, but that offer is far from guaranteed to come.
