Rúben Amorim has sent a strong message to Manchester United’s board members ahead of the club’s first summer transfer window under his instruction.
Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer as they plan a major clear-out to support Rúben Amorim’s rebuild. The club are expected to focus on raising funds through player sales, with several departures already in the works.
Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen will both leave at the end of the season when their contracts expire. Neither are seen as part of the long-term project under Amorim.
United are also looking to offload players currently out on loan. Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are all expected to be sold, with none of them likely to be reintegrated into the squad.
Casemiro is another high-profile name expected to move on, as the club look to reshape the squad with younger, more dynamic players who better suit Amorim’s tactical demands.
Amorim addresses summer transfer plans
Speaking ahead of the club’s fixture against Manchester City, Amorim was asked in an interview with Sky Sports about how critical United’s summer will be with respect to transfers and pre-season.
“I think it’s crucial,” he replied. “I think we are trying to do everything as soon as possible. If you look at the schedule of teams, we will not have the Club World Cup, so that means that we are going to have a pre-season.
“If you look at the next years, we are going to have a World Cup, then a European Championship. So this window is going to be massive to work on our base. So I think it’s clear for everybody here that it’s going to be crucial. And we have to take advantage of that.
“We will not have a pre-season next summer, it will not be like that. So we need to do everything as soon as possible to be prepared for having everybody for the pre-season. To start after a season like this, we need to show something. We need to show something. That is not debatable.
“So I don’t want that conversation of we need a lot of time. We need time, maybe to win the league, but we need to improve a lot next season.”
Amorim’s demands to club board are clear
It is abundantly clear from Amorim’s words that he wants to make sure the majority of his new signings are brought in during the opening weeks and months of the window rather than a dragged-out saga that ends in late August.
Last summer, United were able to get a few deals over the line early on, with Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro both joining ahead of the club’s pre-season tour, although Zirkzee did not play due to an extended holiday following the international break.
With United being closely linked with Victor Osimhen, and the latest reports suggest that Napoli are keen to strike a deal that sees the striker leave as soon as possible once the window opens.
It has become clear that, with United needing a striker and Napoli eager to see the player leave as soon as they can, Amorim’s side must look to secure his signing during the opening few weeks of the transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that there is a chance United could negotiate with Napoli to pay a fee under Osimhen’s £63 million release clause, and United must act to secure his transfer as soon as possible.
