Benjamin Šeško has continued to give encouraging signs in training this week as he continues to hunt for his first Manchester United goal.
Benjamin Šeško was the final of three new attacking signings at Manchester United this summer, joining from RB Leipzig for an initial £66 million plus performance-related add-ons.
Šeško joined alongside Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to form a new-look front three under Rúben Amorim, although the trio are yet to start a game together due to fitness and injury issues.
However, it’s expected that, with Cunha now back in action and Mbeumo fully fit and firing, the three new Reds will line up together for the first time in a Premier League fixture when Amorim selects his team to face Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
The 22-year-old is yet to score for United, having made six appearances, including three starts, but has only completed one 90-minute fixture as he works his way to full fitness.
What insiders have said about Šeško’s training
While the Slovenian is yet to show the full range of his talents on the field at United, he is certainly continuing to impress in training, with club insider Adam Marshall explaining that the striker is looking “very sharp” in front of the goal at Carrington.
Marshall was given an inside look into the first team’s preparation ahead of the Brentford fixture and has told the club’s website what he saw from Šeško and his striker competition, Joshua Zirkzee.
“Benjamin Šeško looked very sharp in front of goal, displaying a variety of finishes, including an emphatic penalty he won during the practice game,” Marshall detailed.
“It was telling how much encouragement there was in general, but the Slovenia striker’s clinical marksmanship drew appreciative ripples of applause and shouts of ‘yes, Ben’ from his colleagues.
“Fellow forward Zirkzee was also in the zone with his shooting, firing home on a number of occasions and earning endorsement from the coaching staff for one expertly dispatched far-post finish.”
Šeško is about to be handed his missing link
Although Šeško has received criticisms for his lack of goals so far this season, it’s understandable why he is yet to be handed a real chance.
Despite United having the most shots of all Premier League sides with 81 in total, Šeško himself has not been offered the chance to take too many himself, with just five in his last five appearances, suggesting that there is not enough creativity surrounding him.
But, with Cunha and Mbeumo now either side of the striker and Bruno Fernandes starting to hit a better vein of form after his good display against Chelsea, there is renewed hope that Šeško’s teammates can create the chances he deserves to notch his first goal against Brentford.
Having a settled attacking line surrounding Šeško has so far been the missing link for United’s new striker, with Cunha’s injury coming just before Mbeumo and Šeško were hitting better fitness levels.
However, in the coming weeks, it’s thought that this could change significantly, and Šeško may start to reach much higher levels, leading the line for United.
