Ruben Amorim continues to have a difficult time in charge at Manchester United after the Reds lost 3-0 against Manchester City on the weekend.
Manchester United fell to their third defeat of the campaign as Manchester City powered to a 3-0 derby win at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Ruben Amorim handed Benjamin Šeško his first start for United, but it was City who drew first blood, Phil Foden finishing smartly midway through the first half. United looked for a reply before the break but couldn’t find a way through.
After half-time, Erling Haaland took centre stage, striking twice in quick succession to put the game out of reach with more than 20 minutes left.
United still had chances through Bryan Mbeumo and Casemiro, yet neither could make them count. In driving rain, Guardiola’s men kept control with ease to wrap up a convincing derby triumph.
What United chiefs think about Amorim after City defeat
Amorim’s record at United continues to get worse and some fans are beginning to lose faith that he can turn things around at Old Trafford.
The United boss has experienced two Premier League wins in a single month just one time since he was appointed in November last year.
With just four points after four games, United have also had their worst start to a Premier League season since 1992/93.
Despite those external concerns, the Manchester Evening News states that Amorim retains the support of the United hierarchy after the derby day defeat.
But it was added that a source close to the United boss admits that it is ‘incredible’ he is not under genuine threat of being sacked at this moment in time.
Amorim needs to make tweaks
Amorim has been honest throughout his time in charge at the club, and his ability to identify issues that need to be solved has given many fans hope that he could fix those problems.
Erik ten Hag seemed oblivious to some of the problems in his team, and that made it seem like things would not change.
But while Amorim does not appear to be stubborn in identifying problems, his stubbornness comes in how to deal with them. He is not adjusting enough, and that’s not just about the formation.
Smaller tweaks can make a huge difference, and if he does not make them soon, the United board might end up being forced into changing their minds.
