“What I like…” Gary Neville explains best part about Benjamin Šeško’s transfer after ‘even better’ admission

Gary Neville has explained what really excites him about Benjamin Šeško as Rúben Amorim continues to get to know his new Manchester United striker.

Manchester United have made four additions to their squad this summer, with Rúben Amorim eager to strengthen the backbone of his Old Trafford team.

The first deal saw Matheus Cunha arrive, announced on the opening day of the window and finalised two weeks later. Bryan Mbeumo followed, signalling his wish to join in early June, though negotiations with Brentford stretched over six weeks before being completed.

In the meantime, United secured 18-year-old left-back Diego Leon, who has impressed in training and already edged into the first-team picture.

The marquee arrival came in the form of Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig, taking total spending to around £214 million. United’s summer rebuild is ongoing, with a midfielder and a goalkeeper still on the agenda.

Neville impressed with Šeško’s goal catalogue

On The Overlap, Gary Neville asked the usual panel of Ian Wright, Roy Keane, and company for their thoughts on several of the Premier League’s biggest signings, asking those present to rate them as “hit”, “miss”, or “not sure” ahead of the new campaign.

After discussing some of Liverpool’s major buys, Neville moved on to Šeško, which was met with many “not sure” answers, with Jill Scott pointing out the failures of Rasmus Højlund as a red flag for any young striker signing at Old Trafford.

However, Neville jumped to the defence of Šeško amid the comparisons to Højlund, explaining that the latter’s failings cannot be used as an indication of whether or not the Slovenian will succeed, as he is his own striker in his own right.

“Well, I think we’ve seen what’s happened with Højlund, irrespective of if it’s on you or the team, it’s still you at the end of the day,” Neville explained amid the discussion of whether Šeško is a positive signing for United or not.

After further debate, Neville chimed in again, explaining that he does feel the range of goals the 22-year-old has scored throughout his career so far is a big positive.

“What I like about him, when you look at his goals, he does score all different types of goals, to be fair to him. He can head it, you know, he’s a 6-foot-5, you know what I mean?”

Šeško is even better than Amorim anticipated

Šeško made his debut for United last weekend against Arsenal, coming on for the final 25 minutes. He has now had two full weeks in training, and Amorim has admitted that he has noticed the Slovenian may be even better than he initially anticipated.

“I like to know the players, I like to see the videos of the players and to try to get all the information, but you want that confirmation, and I felt Šeško was even better than what I was thinking,” Amorim told Sky Sports.

“I have to be careful, Šeško is going to be our striker for many, many years so we need to put that in his head and let him settle down, to stay calm and enjoy his day because he’s really like you said, obsessed.

“I’m really happy – not just with him but with Cunha, Diego, and Mbeumo – we know that we have the players and we know that in our future we are going to have that base and that is really important for us.”
