What Carlo Ancelotti said about Matheus Cunha after Brazil win will excite Man Utd fans

Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has been praised by Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti for his recent star performances.

Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has been celebrated by the Brazilian team head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, for his recent performance in a game against Senegal.

With a 2-0 win against Senegal at the Emirates Stadium, Cunha was a standout player for Ancelotti in his most demanding test so far.

The first half of the match saw the Brazilian’s flair for football, arguably producing one of his best games of his international career.

He played close to the goal, with four attempts, two of which hit the woodwork, all whilst remaining a consistent problem for Senegal’s defence.

Ancelotti highlights Cunha’s importance

After the match, Ancelotti spoke in high regard about the 26-year-old, admiring how well Cunha fits into his structure, valuing his ability to move freely between defensive lines.

“Well, the position of Matheus Cunha is very important for us, because he can help in the build-up from an area between attacking midfielders and strikers, with the three upfront, he can make fantastic plays,” the legendary manager claimed.

Brazil tapped into the players’ mobility to help open up pockets whilst utilising Cunha’s speed for quick transitions within the game. This saw the first 25 minutes of the game packed with clear and decisive chances from the Utd forward.

Cunha’s position also helped the wider players within the team remain higher, furthermore helping Brazil control the game and pressure Senegal’s backline.

Will we see Cunha getting more minutes?

Cunha has also spoken in interviews since his impressive performance. When speaking on behalf of the Brazilian international team, he highlighted his versatility as a player. This paired with the maturity he has also shown, will hopefully work in his favour for securing a place in Ancelotti’s squad.

His performance was one to be noted, combining aggression, great link-up play, whilst also showcasing the Man Utd star’s tactical thinking on the pitch.

Despite having an impressive performance, he went goalless again, having yet to showcase his full potential due to his struggles in front of goal, continuing a worrying trend.

The 26-year-old’s performances representing his club are sure to put him in good standing with Carlo Ancelotti, as he looks to cement himself in Brazil’s 26-man squad ahead of the World Cup next summer. The forward is already a regular in Amorim’s squad, but will look to shake off his poor form in front of goal as soon as possible.
