What Benjamin Sesko has said about “flattering” Manchester United interest as ‘concrete negotiations’ underway

Benjamin Sesko has already addressed the ‘flattering’ interest in him shown by Manchester United as a potential deal comes this summer.

Manchester United have brought in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in an effort to resolve the attacking issues that plagued them last season at Old Trafford.

The pair netted a combined 35 Premier League goals last term, but Ruben Amorim remains keen to add a natural centre-forward to complement their qualities.

Rasmus Højlund has struggled to find consistency since joining the club and could be on the move this summer, while Joshua Zirkzee is often seen as more effective operating in a deeper, No.10 role.

Having missed out on both Liam Delap and Viktor Gyökeres, United are now weighing up a move for Benjamin Sesko — a player the club has monitored for several years.

The 22-year-old hit 21 goals and provided six assists last season, further solidifying his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers.

What Sesko has said about “flattering” United interest

As mentioned before, United’s interest in Sesko is not limited to this summer as they have regularly been linked with him in recent years.

It is no surprise that these rumours have resurfaced and that he is a serious option after Christopher Vivell, formally part of the Red Bull network, moved to Old Trafford.

Sesko has recently addressed the interest from the Red Devils and admitted that it is ‘flattering’ to be linked with such a club, however, he kept his cards close to his chest as it was still during the season.

“I’m fully focused on my job here at Leipzig,” Sesko told reporters when quizzed about the Premier League giants’ interest.

“It’s flattering when a club like Manchester United shows interest, but right now, my priority is to keep improving and helping my team.”

Now that the transfer window has opened, Sesko is seriously considering his options and it seems like United may be ready to fight for his signiture.

Sesko ‘concrete negotiations’ underway

Newcastle are also interested in Sesko this summer as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak after the Swede’s desire to leave their club emerged.

However, reports have claimed that Sesko would prefer a move to Old Trafford despite The Geordies being in the Champions League this season.

Fabrizio Romano has detailed that there is a ‘battle’ between United and Newcastle for the young striker and that the Reds had fresh contact with Sesko’s representatives this week.

The Italian reporter explained that the Reds are now in concrete negotiations although, as we all know, sales will have to occur before they place any major bids for him.
