What Amad Diallo did before signing contract extension will delight Manchester United fans
Amad Diallo is set to sign a long-term contract extension at Manchester United this week after impressing new boss Ruben Amorim.
In an otherwise disappointing campaign for Manchester United so far, Amad Diallo has been a rare bright spark for the club.
The Ivorian broke into the first team late last season under Erik ten Hag and carried that momentum into this season, earning United’s Player of the Month award for August.
Despite this early promise, he was soon dropped from the starting lineup and only regained regular minutes after Ruben Amorim took charge in November.
Under Amorim’s leadership, Amad has featured in all 12 matches, starting nine of them and delivering eight direct goal contributions, consistently shining among his teammates.
Romano reveals Amad contract details
Amad’s current deal at Old Trafford runs out at the end of the season but he is about to put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at the club.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the 22-year-old will sign a deal on Thursday that keeps him at United until June 2030.
He will receive a pay rise on his current £30,000-a-week wages to reflect his growing status in the team under Amorim.
Romano also explained that Amad refused approaches from two ‘top clubs’ this month as he only ever wanted to re-sign at United
European clubs are able to approach players with less than six months remaining on their contracts, but Italian journalist did not reveal who were the clubs that contacted Amad’s representatives.
Amad rejecting top clubs will delight United fans
For United fans, it would have been a slight concern to think that Amad’s head could be turned by free contract offers.
After all, his time at Old Trafford has not gone without challenges and it seemed like a possibility that he could depart when he was getting minimal game-time under Ten Hag.
Thankfully, he has taken his chance since then and Amad also loves the club, which is something that he shows every time he takes to the pitch.
Amad does not take it for granted that he plays for United and many fans recognise that, and will love the idea that he rejected some top clubs to stay.
Now, he will hopefully develop further alongside an improving team under Amorim, and realise the potential that the club saw when they signed him in 2021.
