Former Manchester United star Wes Brown has claimed that a certain United duo ‘need to have an impact’, as the Reds look to secure a shock victory over Liverpool.
After a turbulent start to the season, Manchester United are looking to find their feet in this Premier League campaign and will be hoping that they can climb further up the table.
Ruben Amorim’s side will be looking to use their recent 2-0 victory over Sunderland as a catalyst to boost their season, which they earned due to goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Šeško.
On Sunday, United will make the short trip to Anfield to face the reigning champions, Liverpool, who have been out of sorts lately, losing three matches in a row across all competitions.
With the Reds looking to capitalise on the poor form of their bitter rivals, former United defender Wes Brown has claimed that a certain duo will need to make an impact against a ‘vulnerable’ Arne Slot side.
United to ‘attack with freedom’
When speaking to 10bet Casino, Brown said, “Back-to-back league wins is what we’re all looking for. My hope is that we leave it all on the pitch out there at Liverpool, that we don’t hold back and have regrets.
“Liverpool have had a few defeats recently, but they’ve won plenty this season already, and their squad is really good. They probably have the strongest squad in the league at the moment, but I really hope we can catch them out and off their guard.
“They’re not playing as fluently as they have been in the past, but the task will be to go to Anfield and, first of all, put in a really disciplined defensive display.
“But if you get that right, you’ve also got to attack with freedom. Liverpool are looking a bit vulnerable, and they can be exposed, so that needs to be exploited.”
Brown highlights United duo
The former Red Devil continued giving his thoughts by pleading for two of United’s new attackers to take the game by the neck and leave their mark on proceedings.
He said, “But again Liverpool will be the favourites and it’ll be a tough game. Liverpool won’t take that game lightly as well. Their players, they’ll understand what it means.
“But Manchester United have to turn up and that’s what we’re all looking for, eleven committed performances.
“I want Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to hit the heights they haven’t quite reached yet, despite some promising signs. We need them to have an impact at Anfield.
With United’s two marquee signings both struggling to turn good performances into goals, they will be hoping that their important fixture at Liverpool can be the turning point.
