Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has disagreed with some supporters about one star after the draw against Everton.

Manchester United secured a fortunate point at Goodison Park after going 2-0 down against Everton in the first-half of that clash.

Ruben Amorim’s side were absent in the opening 45 minutes and punished by the in-form Toffees. Beto opened the scoring before Abdoulaye Doucouré added another before the break.

Bruno Fernandes sparked life into United after scoring a brilliant free-kick mid-way through the second half and then Manuel Ugarte netted his first goal for the club with a well-struck half volley.

In the dying seconds of the game, Everton were awarded a penalty, however, the decision ended up being overturned by VAR and the spoils were shared.

Ugarte scores after United fan criticism

Ugarte returned to the line-up after missing the last game against Tottenham Hotspur with an injury. The Uruguayan midfielder signed for the club in the summer window.

After showing some excellent form in early January against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, Ugarte’s form has severely dipped in recent weeks.

In games where United are expected to have the majority of possession, the 24-year-old has received criticism, with some claiming that he does not do enough with the ball.

However, in his return to the side, Ugarte answered critics relatively well. He produced a decent overall performance and his goal was excellent.

Brown disagrees with Ugarte criticism

Wes Brown issued praise for Ugarte after full-time on the weekend, disagreeing with the recent criticism surrounding the no.25.

In fact, the ex-United defender believes that Ugarte makes United a better team with his energy. Brown also thinks that the midfielder’s confidence on the ball in difficult moments is useful.

“Listen, when we have him in the team, I do think we play better,” Brown said on MUTV’s Matchday Review show after the game.

“He’s very energetic and always around the pitch. We bought him as a defensive player and I think he does it very well.

“He gets in people’s faces, retrieves the ball and really good feet as well, he’s very confident on the ball in tight spaces. Let’s hope he stays fit and well.”

Ugarte is expected to keep his place in the team to face Ipswich Town on Wednesday night and he will be hoping to build on this performance.
