Former defender Wes Brown has delivered a bold assessment of one ‘elite’ Manchester United star under new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim has now taken charge of seven games at Manchester United since his move from Sporting Lisbon last month.

The new boss has four wins, two losses and one draw in that time. More importantly, he has been assessing the squad he has inherited mid-way through the season.

With the new formation and style implemented, the 39-year-old is beginning to see who fits where in his plans for the future at Old Trafford.

There have been several standout players in these opening games, particularly Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui.

Wes Brown praises ‘elite’ De Ligt

Matthijs de Ligt has also been another who seems to have impressed Amorim, with the Dutch defender having started all seven fixtures.

He is one of only three players who have started every game under the new head coach and it shows the trust being put him in.

Wes Brown believes that De Ligt will improve his levels under Amorim and reach an ‘elite’ level at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Casino24.dk, Brown said: “Matthijs de Ligt can be an elite defender for Manchester United. He’s had some really good games and when he settles into life at the club he’ll be a big success.

“He’s been playing at the highest level for so many years now at such a young age and now it’s about showing everyone what he can do at Old Trafford.

“I think he’ll find his rhythm in Ruben Amorim’s system and be a valuable player for many years to come.”

De Ligt settling in at United

De Ligt joined the club from Bayern Munich in the summer to reunite with his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.

Despite the Dutch boss departing, the defender feels like he is starting to feel settled in his new life and in the Premier League.

“I’m quite settled and I already feel good,” he told club media. “I feel good with the team, with my team-mates, with the stadium, with the fans. So, hopefully, we can continue like that and me personally also.

“Obviously, in the beginning, it’s quite difficult because, first of all, you come from a different league. Second of all, I didn’t have one normal pre-season in the last couple of years. So it was because of injuries and because of the Euros last summer.

“So it’s quite normal at the beginning that you have some trouble adapting to the pace of the game and to the pace of the players. I feel that game by game, I’m getting better. I’m getting more used to the opponents, about the league, and, yeah, then it becomes a lot easier.”
