Roy Keane and Gary Neville have disagreed on their score predictions for Manchester United’s upcoming clash against Man City.
Manchester United resume their Premier League campaign this weekend as Rúben Amorim takes his squad across the city to meet Manchester City.
Both Amorim and Pep Guardiola have struggled to find rhythm early on. United have one win, one draw, and one loss, while City’s three points from three matches leave them sitting 13th in the table.
The upcoming derby offers both clubs a crucial chance to reset their season and simultaneously drag their rivals further into trouble during this unpredictable start to the campaign.
On their last visit to the Etihad, United staged a thrilling late comeback, with Bruno Fernandes and Amad striking to secure a 2-1 victory just before the turn of the year.
Keane and Neville disagree on final score
This weekend’s Manchester derby is an interesting one, as neither side is anywhere close to being their strongest. United have looked statistically sound but have failed to convert chances, while City have only won one of three and have up to 13 unavailable players, including Omar Marmoush.
The co-hosts on the Stick to Football all had their say on who they feel will win the derby, with former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher backing City to win 3-1, while Jill Scott agreed that the home side will come out on top.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright, however, stated he feels United will take the glory, with Gary Neville agreeing and comically stating “we’re daft enough to win”, with the panel also pointing out that Amorim defeated Pep in the same fixture last season.
Unlike his former teammate Neville, Roy Keane believes the game will end in a score draw. After initially predicting a 2-2 result, the Irishman changed his mind, locking in 1-1 as his final prediction.
Guardiola and Amorim both have something to prove
With Premier League football having been on a two-week hiatus due to the international break, the last piece of action United fans saw was a last-minute winner against Burnley. In contrast, the City faithful saw their team thoroughly beaten by Brighton.
Both teams have started poorly, and both managers have something to prove for the upcoming game. For Amorim, this is about proving he should stay in his job.
After the losses to Arsenal and Grimsby, and a draw against Fulham, many have speculated that the Portuguese manager isn’t good enough for the job. Still, while he could have been sacked during the break last week, United have retained their faith in him.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola is widely regarded as one of the best managers in football, but after signing seven new players, the former Barcelona boss must come out swinging against United.
