One of the worst kept secrets in football looks to be confirmed soon at Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.
A lot has been made of Manchester United’s much-needed summer transfer window this season, with Ruben Amorim needing reinforcements in seemingly every position on the pitch.
One of these positions is the forwards department, with the likes of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee showing inconsistent form this season, scoring a combined seven goals in the Premier League this season.
United are set for an extremely busy summer transfer window period, with a number of different players in every position being linked with a move to Old Trafford over the summer months.
One of the players who has been heavily linked with a move, Matheus Cunha, is seemingly all but a done deal, following his father liking an Instagram post linking the Brazilian with a move to United.
Cunha to be one of the first names through the door
Talks between United and Wolves have reportedly been going on for a number of weeks now, even though the Brazilian signed a four-year contract extension at Wolves in February.
Increasingly more transfers nowadays are filled with drama and back and forwards between clubs agreeing on a deal, but it looks like this one will be seamless, with United just having to pay the £62.5 million release clause included in his latest extension.
It looks like the 25-year-old’s family is already looking forward to his proposed move up North to the Red Devils, with his father Carmelo liking an Instagram comment on a post of him and his son which said, “Welcome to United”.
With many transfers this summer hinging on United’s potential qualification for the Champions League if they win the Europa League, Cunha is said to only want United irrespective of if they qualify or not.
Amorim already a fan of Cunha
The ex-Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig player has been one of the standout performers in the 2024/25 Premier League season, notching a very impressive 15 goals and six assists in a side that has been battling relegation for most of the season.
One of Amorim’s biggest difficulties since taking the job has been coaching players through games, owing to their unfamiliarity with his 3-4-2-1 system, but Vitor Pereira at Wolves also deploys this system, meaning Cunha will be able to provide an immediate impact.

Cunha has impressed in both fixtures against United this season, scoring and assisting in Wolves’ Boxing Day win, and also winning the free kick that Pablo Sarabia scored in their 1-0 win at Old Trafford.
He has already earned praise from Amorim, who highlighted the Brazilian as a player to watch before the latest clash between the two teams.
“He [Vítor Pereira] has some really quality players, [Matheus] Cunha, all these guys have real quality,” the United boss said.
It looks like they could be working together very soon.
