“We need to…” – Ruben Amorim reveals two improvements he wants from Man Utd vs Bournemouth

Ruben Amorim has revealed two improvements he is expecting to see from his Manchester United side in their next game against Bournemouth.

Manchester United will aim to secure an important three points when they welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford on Monday night.

Ruben Amorim’s most recent fixture delivered one of the most eye-catching results of his tenure; a 4–1 triumph over Wolves, highlighted by a Bruno Fernandes double alongside goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount.

United have been resilient of late, suffering just one defeat in their last nine league outings, but with only two wins across their previous six matches, doubts remain over the true quality of their performances.

Bournemouth, by contrast, make the trip north enduring a challenging period, with four losses and two draws from their last six Premier League games, yet they carry confidence from recent visits to Old Trafford, having recorded consecutive 3–0 victories there over the last two seasons.

United are the third highest scorers in the Premier League so far this season, which is a huge positive after goals were hard to come by last term. Bryan Mbeumo is the club’s top scorer with six.

But things at the other end have not improved massively. United have just one clean sheet so far this season; Senne Lammens’ first game against Sunderland.

Amorim wants his team to stop conceding goals and he expects them to improve in terms of their pressing and when protecting the goal deeper.

“I think we are scoring goals but we are suffering so many goals [too], and we will try to find the solutions,” he told club media.

“We need to press better, we need to protect our goal better, because we are not suffering a lot of shots in the last games, I think. We are improving on that. But we know that any opportunity, we are suffering a goal.

“So we want to continue to score goals but focus on not suffering [goals] – that is a key point to win games.”

United’s defensive fragilities are concerning

United’s defensive fragilities are concerning, mainly because it makes it hard to justify Amorim’s formation at Old Trafford.

There are still question marks over the three-at-the-back formation and it doesn’t look good that United concede so often despite usually playing with five defenders.

It is even more confusing since various United defenders are in good form. Luke Shaw and Matthijs de Ligt have both been excellent in recent months yet goals are still being conceded.

Amorim will need to figure out how to improve things defensively and quick, as you cannot push for European football with such a leaky backline.
