Rúben Amorim looks set to finally unleash his latest Manchester United starboy after a recent admission surrounding injury prevention against Brentford this weekend.
Manchester United are back in Premier League action on Sunday as they make the trip to West London to take on Brentford.
Rúben Amorim’s men come into the match on a high after a dominant 3-0 win away to Athletic Club in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final, thanks to a Casemiro header and a brace from Bruno Fernandes.
But while their European form has impressed, United’s league struggles continue—they’ve failed to win any of their last five Premier League games.
With the second leg against Athletic looming on Thursday at Old Trafford, Amorim is expected to rotate his squad, likely resting several senior players and giving game time to some of the club’s young talents.
Amorim makes fresh injury admission vs Brentford
United’s triumph over Athletic Club was one of their most dominating wins this season, and many of Amorim’s key players played the full 90 minutes.
The club has undergone a gruelling campaign, and the head coach admitted after the fixture that, in order to avoid some of his players being injured in the build-up to the second leg, he will have to rest many of his first-team players against Brentford.
“Of course, we are confident [ahead of the semi-final second leg] but we need to be really careful with our players against Brentford, because you can feel it,” Amorim said. “Nous Mazraoui is dead [tired], Patrick [Dorgu] is tired, so we have to manage the players.”
With United looking to make a number of changes at the weekend, there is a real chance that several Academy stars will be handed their debuts and first starts for the senior team.
Amorim set to unleash starboy Kamason vs Brentford
With Amorim clearly looking to hand Mazraoui a rest this weekend and Diogo Dalot unavailable through injury, the head coach looks set to finally unleash Jaydan Kamason.
Kamason has risen to prominence as a marauding right-back in the club’s U18 and U21 teams, having been involved in eight goals this campaign despite playing as part of a back four.
His defensive acumen combined with attacking dynamism has seen many point to him as an almost perfect player with the attributes to succeed as a wing-back under Amorim. With the Brentford tie having little pressure on it, Kamason may be the latest starboy Amorim can hand a debut to.
It is also expected that Harry Amass could be reinstated on the left flank, with Dorgu also in dire need of a rest.
This means United fans may be able to see both flanks controlled by Academy talent in what is set to be a fantastic day for the club’s fans to observe some of the next-generation talent coming out of Carrington.
