Ruben Amorim dropped some injury updates following Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United’s injury problems have caused Ruben Amorim issues throughout the 2024/25 campaign. The Portuguese boss has had his hands full dealing with player management since his arrival.
The Red Devils went head-to-head with Manchester City at Old Trafford on the weekend. While the Manchester Derby was anticipated to be a game of goals, both teams shared the spoils after a goalless draw.
However, the pundits reigning on the squad due to poor performance was not the biggest highlight after the match. It was rather the injury worries ahead of their important clash against Lyon in the Europa League.
Matthijs de Ligt was unavailable for this game, and the defender has been one of United’s more important players in recent months.
Amorim shares Maguire concerns after early substitution
Due to De Ligt’s absence, Harry Maguire stepped up for his team against their clash with City. The Englishman was then replaced by Victor Lindelof after just 58 minutes.
Addressing the early substitution, Amorim insisted it was agreed with the medical department before the match that the Englishman should not be in the pitch for more than 60 minutes on the Manchester Derby.
“Harry Maguire just had 60 minutes allowed from the medical department to play, so he’s fit and ready to go. So we need to be careful on this,” explained Amorim.
Speaking to MUTV, the Portuguese manager added: “Just managing [him]. After 60 minutes, 55 minutes is a risk and we cannot risk any player in this moment.”
Amorim also suggested that De Ligt may be back soon but it was not clear whether the Dutchman would make a return for the next game against Lyon.
Amorim delivers latest on United midfield duo
Amorim was also asked about the midfield duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount. Mount came off the bench in their match against City and Amorim suggested that he’s ready to start.
Meanwhile, Mainoo has started training again with the first-team at Carrington training ground but the United boss suggested that he wants to be careful with the teenager’s reintegration to the squad.
“We’ll see,” stated Amorim. “Mason Mount is ready to do whatever we want. Of course, we have to look at the minutes. Kobbie Mainoo is training with us, we want to be careful, again, with our players, but maybe he’s going to be in our squad.”
It is clear that the Portuguese boss is practicing caution with his players as we are heading onto the end of the season.
With crucial fixtures lying ahead for the team, Amorim will be hoping to keep his squad as fit as possible for the final months of the season.
