“We are waiting…” Antony receives message from Real Betis ace as Manchester United handed major negotiations boost

Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their negotiations to sell Antony to Real Betis this summer, as Rúben Amorim seeks funding.

Manchester United are scrambling to raise funds this summer as they push ahead with plans to overhaul Rúben Amorim’s squad at Old Trafford.

A major rebuild of the front line is already underway, with Matheus Cunha signed and negotiations progressing for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

However, those two moves have exhausted the club’s initial transfer funds, meaning any further additions—particularly in attack and midfield—will need to be financed through player sales.

The club are actively looking to offload Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony, while Rasmus Højlund could also be sold if the price is right.

Antony receives message from Betis ace

Antony’s time on loan at Real Betis for the second half of last campaign was rather spectacular. The winger scored nine goals and contributed five assists in 26 appearances.

He became a firm fan favourite at Estadio Benito Villamarín, helping the club to Europa League qualification for next season and taking them to the Europa Conference League final before falling to a 4-1 defeat against Sancho’s Chelsea.

Betis players have not hid their admiration for Antony either, with Betis talisman Isco claiming earlier this year that the club should crowd-fund to keep the United winger.

A few days ago, Antony uploaded a video to Instagram of himself in the gym, training ahead of the new season.

His teammate at Betis, Natan, replied to the post, stating “Te esperamos,” which translates to “We are waiting for you” in English, which was well received by Betis’ loyal fans.

United handed boost in Antony negotiations

The central issue surrounding Antony’s future this summer is that, although Betis have made their desire to sign the Brazilian clear, they have so far not matched United’s demands.

Profit and sustainability regulations mean United must sell the player for at least £32.58 million to avoid his sale being recorded as a loss on the club’s financial records. In comparison, Betis have so far only shown a willingness to pay around £20 million.

However, it has now been confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that Betis have sold their United States midfielder Johnny Cardoso to Atletico Madrid for a fee over £25 million.

There is now little reason why Betis would not be able to cough up enough cash to secure the player they claim they so desperately want, which is a boost for United in their continued negotiations.
