Manchester United loanee Antony has sent an indirect dig towards one Manchester United star after suggesting that he favours one “great player” at Real Betis.

Antony has made an impressive start to life at Real Betis since joining on loan from Manchester United in late January, featuring in four matches so far.

The Brazilian winger made an immediate impact, winning Man of the Match on his debut in a 2-2 draw against Athletic Club. He played a key role in the opening goal, as his parried shot was converted by Isco.

Since then, Antony has continued to shine, collecting two more Man of the Match awards in his next three appearances. The 24-year-old has already registered three goals and one assist for Betis.

His standout performance came in last weekend’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad, where he scored and assisted in a dominant display. His goal was particularly impressive—a stunning volley from the edge of the box to break the deadlock early in the second half.

With four goal contributions in as many games, Antony is already just one goal away from equaling his entire tally for United last season, where he managed three goals and two assists in 38 appearances.

Antony prefers Isco to Fernandes

Antony had spent two and a half years at Old Trafford before departing on loan, and he could even potentially remain to the club when he returns.

During that period, the best player at United has undoubtably been captain Bruno Fernandes, who is arguably the best signing since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

However, Antony believes that his impressive start at Betis has been helped by the midfield expertise of Isco, who he suggests makes it easier to play alongside. Some United fans have seen this as a dig towards the likes of Fernandes at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian said: “Isco is a great player, he has a lot of experience, he is a star and we all know it. He tells me that he is very happy for me.

“Having him by my side is easier, you get along very well with him. With Lo Celso too. And with other team-mates, too.”

Fernandes one of few players to handle United pressure

Antony is enjoying his time in Spain at the moment but it seems like another example of a player unable to handle the pressure at Old Trafford.

Things are a lot easier elsewhere, with less pressure and expectations. We’ve also seen many players better than Antony fall to the same fate.

One player who hasn’t is Fernandes, and he continues to work hard and show quality in a team which is far below where he should be at this point in his career.

Quality is one thing at United. You need to have a lot more to deal with everything else the club throws at you and that is why Fernandes is so appreciated by many fans. He is one of the few who have been able to deal with it.
