Wayne Rooney has spoken personally to Marcus Rashford amidst the uncertain future he faces at Manchester United.

Manchester United have been exploring loan options for Marcus Rashford this month, as a permanent transfer is considered too challenging to finalise.

The 27-year-old forward recently admitted he was open to a “new challenge,” fuelling ongoing speculation about his future.

AC Milan were initially seen as frontrunners but have instead secured the signing of Kyle Walker from Manchester City.

Barcelona remain interested and are Rashford’s preferred destination, while Borussia Dortmund are also monitoring the situation.

However, there is still a possibility that Rashford will remain at Old Trafford for the rest of the season.

Rooney reveals private Rashford conversations

Wayne Rooney has explained his stance on the 27-year-old’s situation and claimed that he is no longer surprised about the speculation around Rashford’s future.

In fact, the club’s record goalscorer has admitted to having told Rashford that he needs to leave United for the good of his own career.

“I was surprised when this started over two years ago, but now I’m not,” Rooney explained on the Stick to Football podcast.

“I’ve spoken to Marcus a couple of times and I’ve given him my thoughts and feelings that he needs to leave the club, because whatever is going on his life and at United, he’s not the same.

“For him to have a fresh start, he needs to leave the club. The fact that your manager is coming out and saying that you’re not training right is crazy.”

United must resolve Rashford situation soon

It does certainly feel that an exit for the player is beginning to make sense for all parties.

Some people are forgetting that Rashford essentially admitted to being open to leaving the club before he was frozen out of the first-team squad.

His head is probably elsewhere, ideally in Barcelona, while Amorim’s full focus is on the job at hand at Old Trafford.

However, the sooner this is resolved, the better, with the constant questions about the situation from the media getting extremely tiring. And if he ends up staying at the club for the rest of the season, something has to change.
