Wayne Rooney highlights unspoken importance of Man Utd’s win over Brighton, it’s a unique impact

Former United captain Wayne Rooney speaks about how Manchester United’s win over Brighton is monumental for the club’s progression.

The most recent Manchester United victory has seen followers of the club’s hopes reignited, giving Ruben Amorim’s side three consecutive wins in the Premier League.

United legend Wayne Rooney spoke in depth on his podcast about Man Utd’s most recent fixture, discussing just how important this win was for the team’s morale.

The ex-striker highlighted just how much faith the newfound winning streak has given to not just the players and manager but also the fans of the club.

Rooney spoke in detail about the Brighton match, showing the hope he has in the team to “[win] again and again”.

Brighton win was crucial for United

The legendary Man United striker spoke about how important it was for United to beat Brighton following their first win at Anfield in almost a decade, and spoke about what this would do for the side’s mentality.

While the Anfield win will have given the side belief, it’s the victory against Brighton that will have the more unique impact, instilling bona fide confidence within the squad as a whole—a point that has yet to be mentioned by many.

“This game was so important to build on winning at Anfield. I think it was very important to then go and win the next game, so now the players will feel we’re on a bit of a run now, can we do it again and again.

“If Man United lost this game to Brighton, all the same questions would start coming back, and that negativity comes back around again.

“This game was arguably as big as the Liverpool game for different reasons, obviously.”

Hopes are lifted for future games

Rooney continued to speak about the Brighton match, once again circling back to the previous win at Anfield, emphasising how important the two victories are paired together. He expressed how Saturday’s win represented a change in the team’s strength.

“To go out and win and be in such a comfortable position, then getting pegged back a little bit and then see the game off” Shows a shift in dynamic from earlier this season, with United sometimes complicit with the loss as soon as one goal hits the back of the net.

He finishes off by concluding how it was, “such a big game for Man United”, and the win only makes him more hopeful for “the next one, keep going”.

Amorim will look to continue his side’s great form on the 1st of November, when they travel down to Nottinghamshire to face Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest at The City Ground.
