Wayne Rooney makes damning admission about Casemiro following Man United loss
Wayne Rooney has admitted that he thinks Casemiro is a “lazy” player following Manchester United’s Premier League loss against Arsenal.
Manchester United have suffered yet another setback, succumbing to a 1-0 loss against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Leandro Trossard’s decisive strike, capitalising on Kai Havertz’s assist in the first half, sealed the victory for Mikel Arteta‘s side.

This defeat marked United’s 14th in the Premier League this season, setting a new record for the club. Their overall tally of 19 losses across all competitions is also their highest in a single campaign since 1977-78.
Speaking after the game, United legend and all-time top goalscorer Wayne Rooney has focused on Casemiro’s role in the goal, branding him “lazy”.
Rooney’s Casemiro admission
Casemiro has been rightly blasted for his part in Trossard’s goal, where his lack of effort kept Havertz onside after he did not run back to keep his defensive line following his idea of dropping back to hand André Onana a passing option.
“He’s obviously shown that he’s a midfield player, and he’s not a natural centre-back,” Rooney started on Sky Sports.
“As I said at half-time, once Manchester United want to play this way (passing out from the back), whether you’re a midfield player or a centre-back, you have to be ready to push out with the rest of the team. Because if not, you play everyone onside, and you get punished. And maybe a bit naive from here.”
While watching footage of the build-up to the goal, Rooney then pointed out that Casemiro was not even offering Onana a proper passing angle and that his lack of effort to run back to the defensive line was lazy.
“There’s not really an angle anyway, for Onana to get the ball to him. But now you have to push out, you have to see it, and it’s lazy.
“It’s lazy, he’s lazy, the rest of his teammates have pushed out, and they get caught by it and even defend the space. He’s not aware of any players around him, and then Srossard comes in and gets an easy goal.”
