Bruno Fernandes has labelled one of his Manchester United teammates as a warrior after expressing the need for the team to be together ahead of the FA Cup final.

Fernandes, 29, returned to the United squad on Wednesday evening and assisted Rasmus Højlund’s late goal, which ended up being the difference between United and Newcastle.

UtdDistrict revealed that the club captain was not fully fit for this game but pushed to be involved. It was the last game of the season at Old Trafford, and the Portuguese midfielder was outside of the stadium signing autographs and posing for selfies almost two hours after full-time.

Fernandes worked well in midfield alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Sofyan Amrabat. That looks like Erik ten Hag’s best three going into the Wembley final against Manchester City.

Amrabat admitted to club media that he is not yet at his best after spells out of the team. He is likely to depart at the end of the season following his season-long loan. The midfielder posted on Instagram after the game and Fernandes responded, “Warrior.”

It has been an underwhelming season as a whole and Fernandes accepts that. However, the club captain adds that the team have still been working hard and want to finish the season strongly by winning another trophy under Ten Hag.

“We have been trying but results don’t show that. We have been working hard and everyone has been giving their best, it is not enough and we have to do more,” he told Sky Sports.

“We still have two games to go and we have to finish in the best way.

“It doesn’t exist, a captain’s performance, it is a team performance. I am no different from anyone just because I have the armband.

“I always try my best and we always do the best we can for the club – nobody hides that we play for a big club and we have to lift our standards every game.”
