Victor Osimhen hands Manchester United final answer as Rúben Amorim’s most realistic option becomes clear

Victor Osimhen has handed Manchester United his final answer regarding a transfer this summer as Rúben Amorim continues to hunt for fresh striker talent.

Manchester United are preparing for a major revamp of their attacking options this summer following a disappointing 2024/25 season, which ended with a 15th-place finish in the Premier League and a persistent lack of goals.

Bruno Fernandes finished as the club’s leading scorer with 19 goals, while Alejandro Garnacho and Amad each scored 11. Rasmus Højlund contributed 10, but no other player managed to reach double figures across all competitions.

The Reds have already completed the £62.5 million signing of Matheus Cunha and remain in talks with Brentford over a deal for Bryan Mbeumo. Negotiations are ongoing as the two clubs look to finalise terms for the Cameroon international.

United are also continuing their search for a new centre-forward. Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres was a primary target, but the Swedish striker has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract with Arsenal, with a deal between the clubs expected to follow shortly.

With Gyökeres now likely out of reach, United will have to turn their focus to alternative options to bolster their front line.

United handed final Osimhen answer

It has been no secret across the media that United had been interested in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who has proven himself to be one of the deadliest strikers across Europe.

However, after spending the season on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray, following a disagreement with the Serie A side’s board in 2024, it has been claimed by Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu that the player has chosen to continue at the Istanbul club.

According to Sabuncuoğlu’s reports, United were very keen on signing the Nigerian international this summer but needed him to take a wage cut to join the club, which the striker refused to do.

He is now set to hold a fresh round of talks with Galatasaray this week, with the Turkish Super Lig side having made him the best offer across all European sides.

United’s summer is heading toward Watkins

Amorim wants Premier League experience in his transfer this summer, hence the signing of Cunha and continued pursuit of Mbeumo, and his additions from other English sides may not stop there.

With Osimhen likely on his way back to Turkey and Gyökeres heading for Arsenal, reports have emerged that the club are showing interest in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

The 29-year-old England international has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent strikers over the last five seasons, having scored more than ten goals in each, totalling 75 in 184 competition appearances.

There are also other names on the market, such as Hugo Ekitike and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. But, the former’s £85 million price tag is too high, while the latter is said to have wage demands that United are not willing to match.

With other priority options signing elsewhere, United’s summer may be looking in the direction of Watkins as he becomes the most realistic quality option for the Reds.
