Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has explained one thing that Benjamin Šeško must do in the coming weeks at Old Trafford.
Benjamin Šeško completed a summer move from RB Leipzig to Manchester United as part of the club’s bid to strengthen their attacking options at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old forward, a long-standing target for United, arrived along with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Senne Lammens.
He made his debut as a second-half substitute against Arsenal and has since featured in three additional games, with just one start to his name.
After returning from international duty with Slovenia, Šeško may be handed his first Premier League start in United’s upcoming away clash with Manchester City.
Yorke explains one thing Šeško must do
Dwight Yorke has been speaking about United’s new striker, who is yet to start a Premier League game for the Reds.
The ex-forward believes that there are only a couple of guaranteed spots in Ruben Amorim’s team, and that Šeško can secure his spot in the team by simply matching his levels from Leipzig.
“We haven’t seen enough of Benjamin Šeško, just glimpses. He’s one for the future, I’m sure, and that’s probably the intention. He needs to bide his time and work his way into the team,” Yorke told Jackpot City Casino.
“However, the reality is that these players have a good chance of playing for and starting for United because current players aren’t performing at a high level. The manager is likely to chop and change.
“What you need to do is put yourself in a position to get into the team, because outside of maybe one or two players, every other spot is up for grabs in my opinion when you look at that United team.
“It would be very encouraging for him to get his head down and start to perform the way he can perform, then he would be too hard to ignore.”
Šeško will get his chances
Šeško will undoubtably get his chances in the coming weeks, and he will be hoping that extra game-time with Slovenia will sharpen him up ahead of his Old Trafford return.
But as Yorke suggests, the team will likely be chopping and changing. Šeško will not be playing every game, with the likes of Matheus Cunha and Joshua Zirkzee also playing through the middle.
The only way to change that is for Šeško to start scoring goals and making it very difficult for Amorim to take him out on the team.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on, with United’s upcoming games being difficult ones.
