After impressing out on loan, one Manchester United star would be welcomed back by his parent club with open arms.
Manchester United enjoyed a busy summer transfer window, adding four new faces to the first-team squad, with Senne Lammens completing a late move on deadline day.
The club also sanctioned several high-profile departures, including Alejandro Garnacho’s switch to Chelsea and Antony’s transfer to Real Betis, after both players were deemed outside of Rúben Amorim’s long-term plans.
United were equally active in the loan market, arranging temporary moves for a number of academy talents to help them gain valuable first-team experience.
This summer also marked a new era for Jonny Evans, who transitioned into a new role as the club’s Head of Loans and Pathways following his retirement. Under his leadership, 14 academy prospects have embarked on loan spells for the current season.
Harry Amass is shining on loan
Harry Amass has been excellent since making the switch to struggling side Sheffield Wednesday at the start of the season.
The full-back has started all 11 Championship games this season, even scoring his first professional goal on Saturday against Southampton, finishing well from outside of the box.
His recent performances for Sheffield Wednesday haven’t gone unnoticed, with one fan claiming Amass would be in the 2028 England Euros squad, also calling him an “unreal talent”.
As reported by The Sun, United would reportedly welcome back the left-back from loan with open arms, after The Reds have struggled at left-back with the current option, Diogo Dalot, who is often criticised for his performances.
Amass should extend his loan at Sheffield Wednesday
Due to Sheffield Wednesday’s poor financial situation at the time, United only agreed to a six-month loan deal for Amass, covering all the expenses to finalise the deal.
Therefore, as it stands, the left-back will return to Old Trafford in January when the deal expires. Still, it would be greatly beneficial for United to send the youngster back on loan to Wednesday, where he would be expected to continue gaining regular playing time.
With the signing of Diego León last January, it would be easy to see that he would be Amass’ replacement as the long-term left-back at United. However, a full season competing in the Championship would substantially improve both his physical ability, owing to the nature of the league, as well as his defensive ability, given that Sheffield Wednesday would most likely be on the back foot for most games.
Patrick Dorgu has struggled for minutes this season, being displaced by Dalot, who is a natural right-back. Amass could return to Old Trafford next summer with the confidence that he could displace Dorgu and become a regular starter for United.
