Unnoticed Amad Diallo moment during Man United vs Fulham detailed, it’s a positive sign
An unnoticed moment from Amad Diallo during Manchester United’s win over Fulham has been detailed and it is a positive sign.
Manchester United opened their 2024/25 Premier League season with a 1-0 win against The Cottagers.
Despite a strong performance, the Reds struggled to capitalise on their chances. Bruno Fernandes had the two best opportunities in the first half, but Bernd Leno blocked both.
Erik ten Hag’s side pressed effectively and created several chances, but their finishing lacked precision until Joshua Zirkzee’s late contribution.
The Dutch striker scored a fantastic goal in the 87th minute of the game, clinching the victory for his new team.
Amad Diallo thought he had provided the opportunity to score a goal much earlier in the tie, however, after he danced into the Fulham box and appeared to be brought down.
While a penalty was not awarded by the on-field referee or the VAR, the young Ivorian clearly took a blow as he was driving with pace when knocked to the ground.
The 22-year-old was on the ground for a short period of time but managed to get back to his feet and play until he was replaced around the 60th minute.
Danny Webber, who was speaking to MUTV’s Matchday Review, explained how he was impressed by the way Amad was able to carry on after the knock.
“Amad was going at some pace and he stayed down for a while, it was a worry,” he began.
“For a good 30 seconds, he was lying still. He managed to get up and hobble and get the feeling back in his leg, and get on with it.
“And that’s what you want to see. You want to see players who are robust, resilient, able to weather the challenges and play at a high intensity and go out and win football matches.”
It is certainly an important trait for tricky wingers who are likely to be swiped to the ground consistently, especially those of Amad’s height and build.
Amad excelled during pre-season and will continue to get opportunities under Ten Hag and will need that same resistance going forward in the Premier League.
