“Underestimated…” – Wes Brown says that ‘amazing’ Manchester United star will “really surprise people” this season

Ex-Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes that one ‘amazing’ Manchester United star will impress fans this coming season.

Bryan Mbeumo officially joined Manchester United earlier this month following a protracted transfer saga between the Red Devils and Brentford.

The deal was finalised in time for him to link up with the squad ahead of their pre-season tour of the United States, and Ruben Amorim is thrilled to have the 25-year-old forward on board.

Although he is yet to make his first appearance for the club, Mbeumo has already been impressing behind the scenes in training, with his sharp movement and clinical finishing catching the eye of staff and teammates alike.

After netting an impressive 20 goals in the Premier League last season, the Cameroon international will be eager to carry that momentum into the new campaign and make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.

Brown believes Mbeumo will surprise people

Former United defender Wes Brown has been speaking about the signings of Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha this summer and he believes that the former will surprise people this season.

Brown states that Mbeumo has been ‘a bit underestimated’ and that he will be a surprise package for United this coming season.

“Part of me feels that United should’ve gone for an out-and-out number nine but when the opportunity to sign players as good as Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha pops up, you don’t say no to them,” Brown told WhichBookie.

“They’re very good individuals who can get on the ball, run at players and make things happen. Mbeumo has been in mine and everybody else’s fantasy teams for the past few years because of his amazing output and I feel he’s probably been a bit underestimated.

“When Ivan Toney was at Brentford people were always talking about him being their best player, but looking back a lot of that good work was also down to Mbeumo. We’ve not seen him in a United shirt yet but I think he’s someone who will really surprise people.

“Regardless of what positions people think United need to strengthen in, I think these are the kind of signings they need to be making. Not only are they good players but they’ve already proven themselves in the Premier League and they’ve lacked that in recent years.”

Mbeumo focused on output

It is an interesting take from Brown considering how exciting a lot of United fans are about the signing of Mbeumo but it is understandable in one particular aspect.

Mbeumo provides less flair than a lot of wingers and he’s all about output. The attacker studies the game and would be considered to use less instinct than someone like Cunha, for example.

Those kind of players don’t always catch the eye too much but can be extremely important for a team and it is the type of player that United haven’t had too often in recent years.

If Mbeumo was to perform better than most United fans expect him to, then we could be in store for a special season from the new signing.
