Manchester United’s dressing room reportedly feels one of Rúben Amorim’s current loanees is “not good enough” to play for the Old Trafford club.
Manchester United have let a host of high-level talent depart the club on loan in the last 12 months amid the need to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s system.
Jadon Sancho left for Chelsea on loan last summer after a fallout with Erik ten Hag, with the London club agreeing to an obligation to buy for around £25 million in the summer 2025 window, although they also have a £5 million penalty they can pay should they want to escape signing him.
Then, the January window saw Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia all leave on loan after they were deemed an ill fit for Amorim’s new system at Old Trafford, with all three expected to be sold this summer.
A whole host of Academy talent also left on loan, although this was more aimed at seeing the young guns gain vital first-team experience rather than because they had no future at the club.
United squad feel Sancho is not good enough
Amid reports that Chelsea have the option to send him back to United for a relatively modest fee, there have been rumours about what the club would then choose to do.
However, in a new report from the Manchester Evening News, it has been made clear that the first-team squad would have “major misgivings” about Sancho’s potential return.
It is claimed that although influential figures in the dressing room have no issue with Sancho and his personality, they feel the player was “unable to cope with the demands” of United before his fallout with Ten Hag.
It is stated that, with a potential return under Amorim theoretically on the cards, those in the squad feel Sancho “is not good enough” to play for the club.
Asked earlier this year whether Sancho wanted to play for United again, Amorims said: “I don’t know. I’m just focused on my players and my problems. Sancho is not my problem.”
Sancho has been deceiving fans at Chelsea
Sancho has spent the season on loan at Chelsea. He has scored two goals and registered six assists in his 28 appearances so far, three of which came in his opening few appearances.
Former Chelsea midfielder and club legend John Obi Mikel was heavily critical of Sancho last month, claiming he has deceived the fans.
“He’s deceived us with a good couple of games, you know we thought oh f***ing hell now we’re getting this Jadon Sancho from Dortmund but he’s gone again,” Mikel said on his podcast this week.
“He’s disappeared off the grid, he takes the ball he doesn’t go past people, anymore he doesn’t create chances anymore you know he doesn’t he doesn’t help the team as much as he should be.”
