UCL-winning manager added to Man Utd shortlist as potential Michael Carrick successor

Manchester United have added a UEFA Champions League-winning manager to their shortlist following the recent appointment of Michael Carrick as their caretaker.

Manchester United recently parted ways with their former manager, Ruben Amorim, and have since been weighing up their options regarding a replacement.

Darren Fletcher took charge of the Reds recent Premier League bout against Burnley, as well as their FA Cup tie at home to Brighton and Hove Albion, although he has now been replaced.

Former United midfielder Michael Carrick has since been appointed to join the Red Devils on a caretaker basis until the end of the season.

This decision allows United’s higher-ups more time to decide on a permanent successor, and they have now added a new manager to their shortlist.

Enrique added to United shortlist

As reported by the Daily Express, United have added Paris Saint-Germain manager, Luis Enrique, to their manager shortlist for the summer.

Enrique, who recently won the UEFA Champions League with the French side, only has one year and six months left on his contract, and has yet to agree on a new deal.

The 55-year-old has won the Champions League with both PSG and FC Barcelona, as well as a further 17 major titles across the two clubs.

As well as this, the Spaniard led the Parisian giants to the biggest winning margin in Champions League history, as they dominated Inter Milan 5-0 last summer.

United’s allure

The Reds have been linked with a host of different managers since they sacked Amorim a couple of weeks ago, with Enrique being the latest addition to their shortlist.

Despite speculation about Enrique’s departure from PSG, it remains uncertain as to whether United have what it takes to entice the Spaniard.

Given the current state of affairs at Old Trafford, the Reds may not have the allure that they once did, and bringing in a manager of Enrique’s stature may be more difficult than first thought.

Hopefully for United, Carrick can help to steady the ship and secure them European football, which may in turn help them in their hopes of securing an elite manager.
