Manchester United are making progress in a deal to make Lecce wingback Patrick Dorgu their first signing of the January transfer window.

Ruben Amorim is in desperate need of signings at Manchester United and the most important addition to make is at wingback.

United do not have enough quality in the wide areas for the new head coach’s system, with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui not good enough in the role.

After a quiet opening two and a half weeks of the mid-season transfer window, United appear to have jumped into action following their 3-1 defeat to Brighton on the weekend.

It has been reported by various reliable outlets that United are interested in signing Patrick Dorgu and in discussions with Lecce over a potential £30 million deal.

Dorgu would likely be used as a left wingback in Amorim’s system and further exits may be expected should he join the club.

Malacia open to permanent United exit after Dorgu developments

Tyrell Malacia is one player United are open to letting leave on loan this month, with Serie A clubs interested in the player. However, the recent developments surrounding Dorgu looks to have changed things slightly.

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, the club are looking to included a loan fee in any deal for Malacia.

It was also explained that there could now be an option to buy at the end of the season, with the player open to departing permanently.

While the full-back’s preference is to remain at Old Trafford, he is aware that the club’s plans to complete the signing of Dorgu will complicate his chances of staying.

Malacia’s United exit is best for all parties

The most important thing for Malacia right now is to get consistent game-time after his horrid time out with injury over the last 18 months.

However, it is also apparent that he doesn’t quite suit the wingback role either, and he is probably United’s only fullback who wouldn’t be able to fill into Amorim’s back three either.

That leaves him somewhere in the middle and with United in need of sales in order to sign players, a potential permanent exit at the end of the season could work for all parties involved.

Clubs in Italy will also likely see a deal for the player this month as more attractive if there is the option for them to buy him at the end of the season should he prove his quality and fitness whilst on loan.
