Two more signings, forgotten star included: Ruben Amorim’s most realistic Man Utd XI for 2025/26

Manchester United fans are desperate for a complete overhaul at Old Trafford this summer following on from the embarrassment of last season.

Those at Manchester United want changes to occur this summer as well but it is starting to feel like there won’t be as many changes as we’d like.

Matheus Cunha is already through the door and it looks like Bryan Mbeumo is going to join him but any further signings will be determined by the amount of sales the club make.

There are some players who are going to be more difficult to move on, which means they are likely to stay at Old Trafford for at least another 12 months.

While it is certainly exciting to imagine a new lineup for the 2025/26 campaign with seven new signings and £400 million spent, that probably isn’t the most realistic thing.

So, in this article, UtdDistrict provides a more realistic team which may end up being considered the best Amorim can use next season.

Amorim’s most realistic United XI for 2025/26

The only major question mark this summer in the defence surrounds the goalkeeper, André Onana. He could leave if the right offer comes in, but that still feels unlikely, especially since his preference is to remain at the club.

He will likely remain between the sticks, with Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt joined by the forgotten star Lisandro Martínez in the backline. The Argentine is unlikely to start the season but will return shortly afterwards and despite the concerns, he still remains the best passer within United’s defence.

On the flanks, we are probably going to see Amad moved into the right wingback role while Patrick Dorgu operates from the left side. It might be the first time under Amorim where the two players out wide can cause danger going forward, although you’d like to see some improvements from Dorgu in that aspect.

Many fans are hoping for a new midfield signing at Old Trafford this summer, and that could happen, but it might only be someone to provide depth in the position, which may be frustrating.

Bruno Fernandes will start in that deeper role and his best partner still seems to be Casemiro, but perhaps that is a role Manuel Ugarte or Kobbie Mainoo will be pushing to try and take.

Moving onto the attack and there finally can be some changes to the team which embarrassed the club last term. A completely new-look frontline which includes the already-signed Cunha on the left. Despite the hold-up in negotiations, Mbeumo is also still likely to join and operate from that right side.

There is no doubt that United are going to strengthen in the no.9 position but the most realistic signing is still up for debate due to the various options. Hugo Ekitike has been on United’s radar in recent weeks, although some journalists have played down the potential move.

But it has been claimed by Eintracht Frankfurt’s CEO Markus Krosche that the German club wouldn’t stand in Ekitike’s way if he wants to move. With the player known to be a boyhood United supporter, this deal does seem to make a lot of sense.

With some sales made, and the fact that INEOS ideally want to sign young players who can still improve, the 22-year-old offers exactly that and it’s a risk that could be afforded after buying two Premier League-proven forwards to play just behind him.

While this is not a perfect team by any means, the new-look attack should immediately give United a much better chance of winning games and climbing the table.

The biggest issue remains in the middle of the park, where there are not many quality options in United’s ranks. Perhaps there is also concerns on the flanks in terms of the lack of depth behind someone like Amad.

Full XI: Onana; Yoro, De Ligt, Martínez; Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Cunha, Ekitike
