Two Manchester United players may be losing Ruben Amorim’s trust as the club suffered a recent injury crisis.

Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, with Ruben Amorim forced to include seven Academy players on the bench.

Among the substitutes, Victor Lindelöf was the only player to have previously played a single Premier League minute before the match.

Chido Obi, who had no prior league experience, was introduced after full-time for his debut—the only change made by Amorim.

United were without Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer due to minor injuries, while Christian Eriksen and Leny Yoro were sidelined by illness.

It was also confirmed that Amad sustained a serious ankle injury, which is expected to rule him out for the rest of the season alongside Lisandro Martínez. Additionally, Kobbie Mainoo picked up a calf strain in training ahead of the game and will be out of action for six weeks.

While reports have suggested that the likes of Ugarte, Yoro, Eriksen and Collyer will be back in contention to play soon, Amorim still has several issues to deal with.

Shaw and Mount could lose Amorim trust soon

The biggest two problems for the United manager are at left centre-back and in the front line due to Amad and Martínez’s long-term issues.

They were both two of the most impressive performers under Amorim and their absences will leave significant holes on the team.

Two players could help Amorim in this aspect. Luke Shaw and Mason Mount would slot into those positions when fit.

Both players have been unavailable through injury for an extended period now – in fact, Shaw has not started a game for the club in over a year – and Amorim has been supporting them throughout the process.

But, with the manager facing extreme difficulties and pressure, it would be hugely disappointing if neither player returned soon to help deal with these issues.

Mount would immediately be a solid option as one of the two no.10s and Shaw could fill in Martínez’s role like he did during periods under Erik ten Hag.

But they need to return, and if they do not, they could risk losing the trust of Amorim.

The United boss has explained that he will protect players who are doing the right things but that does not mean the trust will remain the same.

Amorim has also mentioned the importance of his team being physically prepared for his style and those two are already behind in that aspect. Updates on their situations are rare and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to help the club on the pitch any time soon.
