Two Man United starlets set for new contracts, with Erik ten Hag expected to promote exciting talent
Following confirmation of Harry Amass signing his first professional deal at Manchester United, two more exciting talents are expected to sign new terms.
Amass put pen to paper on his 17th birthday last week, following United’s U18s 5-2 victory over Blackburn. The left-back signed from Watford in the summer transfer window.
United are now focused on rewarding Kobbie Mainoo – only two years Amass’ senior but already a key player in Erik ten Hag’s first team – with a new deal at Old Trafford.
According to a new report from Rich Fay of ManchesterWorld, the exciting 18-year-old is discussing a contract that could see him tied up until 2030 with a healthy upgrade on the terms of his current deal.
It was added that Ten Hag is a huge admirer of the United academy graduate, while new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe also views Mainoo as an integral part of the squad in the years to come.
The report finally stated that there is a chance that an agreement will be reached before the end of the current season, although Mainoo remains focused on the campaign with United.
Mainoo was rewarded with his first call-up to the England senior team this week after an excellent season so far with United – he could make his debut for The Three Lions on Saturday against Brazil.
Meanwhile, Shea Lacey, another extremely-rated talent, is expected to sign his first pro contract at Old Trafford in the coming weeks, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The exciting winger has often been compared to Mainoo in terms of playing above his age range. Both players made their debuts for the Under-18s at 15 and have stood out in their respective youth teams.
Unfortunately for Lacey, he has been out of action for several months through injury. Although the aforementioned report explained that the 16-year-old will be offered opportunities in Ten Hag’s first-team training squad in due course.
Lacey turns 17 on April 14, and it is expected that he will sign his first professional contract on that day. He signed his scholarship deal with United in August 2023.
