Ruben Amorim’s approach at Manchester United so far has been unsuccessful and some players are reportedly unhappy with some of his tactics.
Manchester United lost the Europa League final earlier this week to solidify the worst season in the club’s modern history. Their get-out-of-jail-free card did not work.
Domestically, it has been a shambles at Old Trafford and Ruben Amorim will need to oversee major improvement heading into the new season.
Despite defeat in Bilbao, several players came out in full support of their manager after the game, with Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw all stating that he’s the right man to turn things around.
“I’m 100 per cent sure that he’s the right man for us because I see it every day, the standards that he has, what he demands from us, the view that he has for the club, for the players, for the coaching staff,” Dalot told reporters.
“A lot of changes are happening at the same time, but ultimately it’s going to be what we do on the pitch. We have to take responsibility from that.”
Why Amorim’s tactics have caused split
But perhaps the entire squad is not fully behind the Portuguese boss and some reports have come out in recent days detailing a bit of a split in the dressing room.
MailSport say that there are two main reasons why some players within the squad are unhappy and unsure about Amorim, with one being his ‘over-confidence’ in his tactical approach.
It is claimed that those individuals ‘cannot understand’ why the manager is putting so much faith into a system which doesn’t suit the squad.
Meanwhile, the report also detailed that some players have reservations over their boss if he continues to use the same formation which has earned him a lot of criticism in the media.
Amorim immediately introduced his 3-4-3 formation when he moved to Old Trafford and has not adjusted from that shape since then.
United players need to take more responsibility
He has received public backing from some experienced players in the dressing room but it is clear that issues are present within that squad. That’s why they’ve done so poorly this season.
Players have to take more responsibility because this feels like an ugly trend which we’ve seen from previous managers.
Does Amorim need to show some more adaptions and improvements? Undoubtedly. But there is no getting away from the fact that many of the players have been disgraceful this season.
United are likely going to show some ruthlessness in the summer, and then Amorim is going to have to back things up when the new season starts.
