Rúben Amorim could make at least two changes as Manchester United line up to face Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Rúben Amorim’s team head to North London on Saturday to face Tottenham Hotspur, aiming to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five matches.
Manchester United have been in strong form lately, claiming wins over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton, along with a draw against Nottingham Forest. Since their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in mid-September, they have lost only once.
Tottenham, under Thomas Frank, are level on points with United but have struggled at home this season. They’ve won just one of five home matches — a 3-0 victory over Burnley — and were defeated 1-0 by Chelsea in their latest home game.
The two clubs faced each other four times last season, including the Europa League final, with Spurs victorious in every meeting. Amorim’s side will be looking to reverse that record when they travel to London this weekend.
Amorim could make two changes vs Tottenham
This week, Amorim has been speaking to the press after winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for October, thanks to his three wins against Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton. When questioned on Spurs, he was keen to stress how good they are at set pieces.
New goalkeeper Senne Lammens has so far looked comfortable punching and catching set pieces, a far cry from the nightmares Altay Bayındır and André Onana had last season, and it’s not hard to believe that the Belgian will continue in goal.
However, Amorim has spent much of his recent time speaking about how good Harry Maguire is at dealing with set-piece threats, with the “very good” centre-back therefore likely to return to the starting XI.
If Maguire is to play, this would likely force Matthijs de Ligt to right centre-back, with Luke Shaw continuing on the left. The Frenchman, Leny Yoro, would therefore have to make way.
As for the wing-backs, it’s almost certain that Amad will continue on the right flank. However, with Diogo Dalot having a poor few fixtures on the left, he could be replaced by Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, who is more equipped to deal with the pace of Spurs attacker Mohammed Kudus.
In midfield, Casemiro has established himself as one of United’s best players over the last few months and will partner Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park, facing a tough battle against Frank’s strong, central unit.
In the attack, there is potential for changes, but considering United are away from home, they are unlikely. Matheus Cunha has shown proficiency as a striker away from home in the last few months, but Benjamin Šeško’s aerial talents could be helpful in the middle of the front three.
If Šeško is to continue as the striker, Cunha would likely play on the left-hand side, with Bryan Mbeumo, the newly-crowned Premier League Player of the Month for October, starting on the right.
However, do not rule out either Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, or Joshua Zirkzee to have a significant impact off the bench in what could be a very tight game in North London.
