The EFL have confirmed the match referee as Manchester United travel to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Thursday evening.

Rúben Amorim is set for his first domestic cup test as Manchester United manager, with his side travelling to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening.

United arrive in confident mood after a stunning comeback against Manchester City, where Amad Diallo‘s late magic secured a memorable 2-1 win at the Etihad.

While Amorim’s main focus remains on the Premier League and Europa League, the Portuguese coach will be eager to maintain momentum in this midweek clash against Ange Postecoglou’s unpredictable Spurs.

Both sides have shown their weaknesses this season, but Tottenham will take confidence from their dominant 5-0 victory over Southampton in the build-up to this encounter.

The EFL have confirmed who will take charge of the North London tie.

Confirmed officials

John Brooks (pictured below) will be the referee on Thursday evening in London. Taylor has officiated 13 Premier League matches this season and a few in UEFA competitions.

Brooks has met United once this season, officiating the side’s 4-0 win over Everton earlier this month, where Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee netted twice each at Old Trafford.

He has also overseen one Tottenham game, refereeing their spectacular 4-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium three weeks ago.

So far this season, Brooks has issued 533 yellow cards in the Premier League and 70 across all competitions. He’s issued no red cards across any competitions this season but has granted five penalties.

Simon Bennett and Daniel Robathan will be on the sidelines as Brooks’ assistant referees during the game. Gavin Ward will separate Amorim and Ange Postecoglou as the fourth official on Thursday.

Fans must note that there will be no video assistant referee for the tie. Before last season’s competition, the EFL decided that the technology would not be in place until the semi-finals.
