Tottenham have been hit with another injury blow just days before they play Manchester United in the Europa League final next week.
Manchester United are bound for Bilbao, where a season of chaos, criticism, and collapse could be rescued by glory, as Rúben Amorim’s side prepare to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on 21 May.
It marks their fourth final in three seasons — a run that includes Carabao Cup success in 2023 and an FA Cup win in 2024 under Erik ten Hag, though also the bitter memory of losing the 2023 FA Cup final to Manchester City.
This campaign, though, has descended into turmoil. United sit a shocking 16th in the Premier League, their form riddled with inconsistency, disorganisation, and alarming defeats that have left fans disillusioned and the club at a crossroads.
But one match could change everything. A win in Bilbao wouldn’t just deliver silverware — it would restore pride, secure a Champions League return, and give Amorim the authority and momentum to reshape the club in his image.
Tottenham hit with fresh injury blow vs Aston Villa
While United face off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Friday evening, Tottenham travelled to play Aston Villa in Birmingham.
Villa are currently leading the tie 2-0 after goals from Ezri Konsa and Boubacar Kamara. However, Ange Postecoglou will be sweating over the fitness of yet another Tottenham player with the Europa League final fewer than five days away.
Tottenham fielded a very much rotated team for the fixture in Birmingham. After just over 50 minutes, defensive midfielder Pape Sarr came off, being replaced by Yves Bissouma.
Although it initially seemed like a planned change, The Athletic’s Tottenham correspondent, Jay Harris, confirmed that Sarr instead went straight down the tunnel with a member of the Spurs’ medical team.
Sarr’s potential injury will be a major concern for Postecoglou ahead of the final. Attacking duo Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison have been confirmed absentees for the tie, and midfielder Lucas Bergvall is a doubt.
This is a developing story. More information will be added once it becomes available.
