In a recent interview, Tom Heaton was quick to praise two of Manchester United’s newest recruits as they get their pre-season training underway.
With a disappointing campaign fresh in the memory of everybody involved with Manchester United, Ruben Amorim will be hoping for a fresh start this pre-season.
To help Amorim with his fresh start, there are a few new faces in the United dressing room so far, with hopefully more to join later in the transfer window.
The main talking point ahead of the Red Devils’ pre-season is marquee signing Matheus Cunha, who has joined from Wolves for a blockbuster fee of £62.5 million.
Alongside Cunha is 18-year-old Diego Leon, who is a Paraguayan left-back who has arrived from Cerro Porteno for £3.3 million, which could rise to £7 million.
Heaton praises United’s new signings
With many United fans eagerly anticipating how their new signings will fare in the side, Tom Heaton has expressed in an interview how the fresh faces are getting on in the first week of pre-season.
When conducting an interview with the club about the early stages of pre-season, Heaton said, “Day one is always nice to get underway, the testing’s pretty heavy, you know, they test every part of your body, I think.
“And then obviously training on top of it, so hopefully now we gradually build back into performing back out on the grass.”
The 39-year-old goalkeeper then went on to praise the new signings, explaining that he has seen the duo settle in very quickly with the rest of the squad.
“The new lads have been great, I think they’re settling in really well, obviously Diego [Leon], Matheus [Cunha], and yeah, I think they’ll be two really good signings for us.”
Light at the end of the tunnel for United
The past few years haven’t been easy for anyone involved with United, from fans to players, but hopefully this summer can bring a time for change.
The highly anticipated arrival of Cunha should help alleviate some of the attacking woes that plagued United last season, which often held them back.
United’s new Brazilian maestro will potentially be joined later in pre-season by some more attacking talent, with the ever-lasting Bryan Mbeumo saga hopefully nearing a conclusion.
If Amorim’s side can get some more positive deals over the line, then this summer could be an exciting turning point for the Red Devils, who will be desperate to get back to their old winning ways.
