Tom Heaton has explained the key word Erik ten Hag has used at Manchester United in order to inspire the club’s recent brilliant form.

Manchester United have won their last 12 fixtures across all competitions at Old Trafford, which is the best winning streak the club has been on at home since a string of 17 wins in a row in 2011.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, Tom Heaton has explained that the word “momentum” has been the word used most often by Erik ten Hag around the club.

“This season has taken it onto another level and we’re transitioning to where we want to be. There’s a good atmosphere at the minute and good momentum – that’s been a key word here,” he explained. “We want it to be a fortress here like it has been. Nobody is getting carried away but there’s a good feeling.”

Continuing on the manager, Heaton described: “He has set the boundaries on what is acceptable and what isn’t and has been very clear. As players you respond to that. The football ideas he’s got across has been good so far. It’s important we keep it up.

“I’m always keen to learn and get opportunities. You try to make the most of it. Two clean sheets and I’ll be raring to go next time.”

Tom Heaton was signed in the summer of 2021 as a back-up goalkeeper, but has explained that he did not join just for the ride – he wants to challenge for the No.1 spot.

“To get the opportunity to come back is great but don’t get me wrong, I didn’t come back just to be a part of the furniture,” he said.

“I still have the hunger and the drive to wear the shirt and as soon as I lose that, that will be it for me. I still feel great and I’ve been patiently waiting for the opportunity.

“(Ten Hag) has been very clear it’s performance-based and he’s been true to his word. We have plenty of people who can take over in the squad if you’re not doing that.”
