Toby Collyer and one other Manchester United starlet could be promoted to the first-team by Erik ten Hag for the 2024/25 campaign.

Collyer, 20, has impressed in pre-season so far, particularly against Rangers when he started alongside United’s first-team regulars.

Now, a report from the Manchester World has claimed that his opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho could be coming soon.

They explained that the young midfielder is not one of the United youngsters currently available for loan this summer, and while he will still feature for the Under-21s this season, he will also be given plenty of first-team opportunities.

Collyer signed a new contract at Old Trafford earlier this month, and Ten Hag insisted on being present for it. The Dutch manager rates the 20-year-old midfielder highly.

The report also explained that the manager is also a big admirer of fellow midfielder and Darren Fletcher’s son, Jack Fletcher.

While the 17-year-old is slightly behind Collyer in the pecking order at the moment, the report says he is equally viewed as having the potential to make it into the first-team set-up.

One of the reasons that the club are open to promoting an academy midfielder next season is that they’re looking to revamp their options in that area of the pitch.

Several signings, such as Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, have been linked to bolster the engine room.

However, the academy talent could also be key considering potential exits for Scott McTominay, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
