Erik ten Hag has announced his 29-man pre-season tour squad for Manchester United’s trip to the United States this summer and some decisions have shocked fans.

The Reds have already played two pre-season friendlies in recent weeks after the team returned to Carrington earlier this month.

After flying to Norway and Scotland to face Rosenborg and Rangers, respectively, the Reds are now set to ramp their preparations up in time for the start of the new Premier League campaign next month

They are set to face Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool during their time in the United States.

Following the announcement of the pre-season tour squad, UtdDistrict have highlighted three surprising decisions made by Ten Hag.

Ogunneye misses out

Habeeb Ogunneye was left out of the 29-man squad despite being the only other recognised right-back other than Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The 18-year-old defender played in both pre-season fixtures against Rosenborg and Rangers.

Considering the reports surrounding a possible exit for Wan-Bissaka, and Diogo Dalot being on holiday following his Euro 2024 participation with Portugal, it seemed like a great opportunity for Ten Hag to continue assessing the right-back to see if he would be ready to contribute at all next term.

Ennis not included despite reports

Reports emerged earlier this week that exciting forward talent Ethan Ennis would be included in the touring squad after signing new terms at Old Trafford.

However, Ten Hag did not name the winger. Instead, the likes of James Scanlon, Sam Mather, and Ethan Wheatley were included.

Tyrell Malacia is still not fit

Tyrell Malacia missed out on the tour last year as a torrid injury-ridden campaign began, and the same has happened again this summer despite the left-back having returned to the grass at Carrington last week.

“Tyrell Malacia is absent from the squad as he continues his rehabilitation from injury under the guidance of medical staff at Carrington,” a club statement read.

Instead, we will see both Harry Amass and Sam Murray travel to the United States. It has been confirmed that Luke Shaw will not join up with the squad after reaching the Euro 2024 final with England.
