Three reasons why Alejandro Garnacho wanted to leave Manchester United revealed, he told friends about one

Alejandro Garnacho is on the verge of completing a £40 million move to Chelsea after Manchester United reached an agreement with the London-based club.

Manchester United have reached an agreement to sell Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea this summer in a deal worth £40 million.

The Reds will also have a 10 per cent sell-on clause in a deal, and that is likely to be activated at some point considering Chelsea’s transfer approach.

Garnacho, 21, broke into the first-team at United under Erik ten Hag and went onto score in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City last term.

He was exiled from the squad this summer and told to find a new club after he criticised Ruben Amorim and the club following the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Three reasons why Garnacho wanted to leave United revealed

There are various reasons why Garnacho has ended up leaving Old Trafford, and he will be hoping to prove Amorim wrong when he plays at Chelsea.

According to The Athletic, the 21-year-old came to realise his days at the club were numbered in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

The Portuguese boss does not use natural wingers in his system, with the two attacking players behind the striker being considered as number tens or inside forwards.

That report also stated that another reason that Garnacho knew he needed to leave was ‘the wider club ethos’ under INEOS.

Garnacho called friends about London desire

There was plenty of interest in Garnacho early in the window but he rejected all proposals from outside of the Premier League.

Bayern Munich reportedly made a late call to try and sign Garnacho but he made it clear he did not want to leave England.

The aforementioned report explained that Garnacho had told friends at the end of last season that he wanted to move to London.

His ideal destination was therefore Chelsea, although there were links to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as well.

Garnacho made 144 appearances for United and scored 26 goals in that time. He won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his time with the club.
