Three Manchester United stars were praised after their performances in the team’s 2-1 win over Brentford in the Premier League.

United made a sluggish start to the game and were fortunate not to fall further behind when a cross nearly found Brentford forward Kevin Schade.

Erik ten Hag’s side gradually improved throughout the first half but struggled to find the decisive finish, with Alejandro Garnacho coming closest to scoring.

Controversy arose when officials forced Matthijs de Ligt off the pitch just before a defensive corner, which Brentford capitalised on to score moments before the half-time whistle.

Nevertheless, United responded brilliantly in the second half, with Garnacho netting an early equaliser and Rasmus Højlund sealing all three points with a composed finish.

Three Man United players receive praise

There were several standout performances on Saturday afternoon and former Premier League striker Chris Sutton delivered praise to three Reds.

He was impressed by the two goalscorers and how they took their chances in front of goal.

But Sutton also singled out the display from 36-year-old Jonny Evans, who he described as a “rock at the back”.

Evans won four of his five duels and also had four clearances in the game, all while boasting a 92 per cent pass success rate.

Speaking on BBC, Sutton said: “Jonny Evans has been a rock at the back for Manchester United.

“He was brilliant in his last game and he’s so dependable. Brentford have hardly had a shot in this second half.”

Speaking on the two goalscorers, he added: “The first goal from Alejandro Garnacho was wonderful and then Rasmus Hojlund with a clever finish.

“That’s the best way to do your talking. That’s the level they need.”
