Three Manchester United stars have proved Gary Neville wrong as Benjamin Sesko agreement nears

Three of Manchester United’s star players have proved Gary Neville wrong, as an agreement nears closer for the signing of Benjamin Sesko.

Manchester United’s summer has been almost entirely focused on the attacking department of Ruben Amorim’s squad, and rightly so, given their subpar efforts last campaign.

So far, the Red Devils have acquired Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to strengthen their wide attacking roles, and now they are nearing an agreement for the signing of Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko has picked United over Newcastle after both the Premier League sides went in for the Slovenian’s signature, and it appears that he will fetch a fee in excess of £70million.

Despite closing in on a big-money deal for a new striker, United legend Gary Neville may not be entirely pleased, as he previously felt like United needed at least six fresh faces this summer.

Neville’s aspirations for United’s summer

When speaking before the Europa League final, Neville insisted that a squad overhaul was necessary for United, as they look to improve on last season’s 15th-placed finish in the league.

The English pundit said, via The Mirror, “Five or six players minimum [are needed] to be able to change the direction of how he [Amorim] wants to play. There’s at least two forwards, a central midfield player, definitely two wing-backs and another centre-back.

“They need six players minimum. Ruben has been very good at identifying the players he wants out of the club; that’s really clear to everybody. The club’s job now is to get them out and get replacements in that he likes and wants in his team.”

United have already acquired the two attacking signings that Neville saw necessary, but could now be blowing the rest of their budget on a third, as opposed to focusing on the other four positions mentioned.

Three United stars prove Neville wrong

Although it could be a cause for concern that the Reds have splurged over £200million on a new forward line without addressing any other issues, their pre-season may have proved doubters wrong.

Amad, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, and Leny Yoro all excited United fans with their pre-season efforts. Yoro impressed at centre back, whilst Amad and Dorgu looked inspired in their wing-back cameos.

This pair could prove to be a solution for Amorim’s wing-back dilemma next season, and could also make Neville’s point redundant about needing defensive reinforcements.

A centre-back signing may not be necessary for many reasons. Aside from the talented Yoro, Ayden Heaven has also emerged as a top youngster.

As well as this, both Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez could soon enough feature as other quality options at the heart of United’s defence, with their injury worries hopefully being behind them.
