Thomas Tuchel has signed a new contract with the England national team despite recent rumours linking him with the Manchester United job.
Manchester United are currently on the look out for their next permanent head coach after sacking Ruben Amorim earlier this season.
Michael Carrick is currently in charge until the end of the campaign and has started brilliantly, with four wins and one draw, but it is still likely that the club look elsewhere when appointing a permanent replacement.
The Reds should be looking at the most experienced managers and once again Thomas Tuchel has been linked with the job. He was an option to replace Erik ten Hag a couple of years ago before he eventually became the England manager.
Now, it has been confirmed that Tuchel has signed a new contract that keeps him at England until the 2028 European Championships, which rules him out of the United job.
Tuchel breaks silence on ‘dream’ England contract amid United links
It was quite surprising to see Tuchel sign a new deal with England before the World Cup. Many people thought he would be a serious contender for the United job after the summer tournament.
The ex-Chelsea boss has explained why he has extended his time with the national team amid those links of a potential Old Trafford move.
“I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England,” the German manager stated on Thursday after the announcement was made.
“It is no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup. It is an incredible opportunity and we are going to do our very best to make the country proud.
“I did not hesitate when asked to continue in this dream job. EURO 2028 will be a very special tournament and as a coach there is nothing more you want than to compete with the very best on the biggest possible stage.”
Carrick not getting carried away
United have started their search for the next permanent boss. Tuchel would have certainly been an option they would consider due to his experience.
Many other managers will be risks if they come through the doors at United, and some fans believe that Carrick would be a better option than many of them.
The ex-midfielder is not getting carried away, though, insisting that a short-period of strong form should not influence United’s decision makers.
“At this stage, I can’t control that, and we’ll see what happens.” Carrick recently said when asked about the full-time role.
“The results of a short period of time don’t change it. If they have changed that, there is something wrong.
“It can’t be so knee-jerk whether it’s really good, whether there’s a few issues we need to solve. It’s steady progress really.
“You kind of know that football can twist and turn just as quickly, so we have got to keep level and keep focusing on what we need to do.”
