Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been speaking about the potential departure of Manchester United target Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
Manchester United are looking to strengthen their underperforming attack this summer and have already reached an agreement to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
The Brazilian was one of the Premier League’s standout performers last season, and he’s just the first of several planned reinforcements for United’s frontline.
Reports now suggest the Reds are also targeting Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo as a potential addition in the coming months.
Mbeumo enjoyed an impressive campaign, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists, though his future at the Gtech Community Stadium remains uncertain.
Frank makes impossible Mbeumo claim
Thomas Frank has developed Mbeumo into a top player since his arrival at Brentford from Troyes in 2019 but now it looks likely that he’ll be losing his star player.
Speaking on the interest in the player from United and Newcastle, Frank reiterated that it will have to be a large transfer fee, but even them, he said that it would be ‘impossible’ to directly replace the 25-year-old.
“It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot,” the Danish manager said to ViaPlay.
“Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done. There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for.”
United receive Mbeumo boost
United’s interest in Mbeumo is clear but there are also concerns that he will opt to join Newcastle, who are in the Champions League next season, over the Reds.
However, there are some positive signs for the Reds after the latest reports revealed that the Brentford forward would be willing to join the club even without European football as he is open to joining a project.

Acquiring both Mbeumo and Cunha in the same transfer window would be a significant upgrade on United’s current options in the forward line, although they will be hoping they are not weakened by the departure of Bruno Fernandes.
After going through an entire season where the attacking play was dreadful at Old Trafford, they would be adding 35 Premier League goals from the previous campaign and that isn’t a bad start to an important window.
