Brentford boss Thomas Frank has addressed the future of star striker Ivan Toney, who has previously been linked with Manchester United.

Toney, 28, has been on international duty with England this summer, and it seemed extremely likely that he would leave Brentford afterwards.

So far, there has been no significant movement, and Frank has been asked about the striker’s situation. He did not rule out an exit but explained that he would ‘love’ to see him stay at The Bees.

“You never know. He’s a Brentford player and I would love him to stay. That would give me a very positive challenge,” he said, as per MEN.

“But I haven’t met a coach who doesn’t want as many good players as possible. Right now, Ivan is a Brentford player. I would be more than happy if he stayed with us.

“He’s a goalscorer, and that’s very good to have in your team, so if you want to buy him, it’s expensive.”

Despite having signed Joshua Zirkzee and already having Rasmus Højlund at the club, United are reportedly interested in signing another striker this summer, although it would likely depend on exits.

However, the latest reports from Matt Hughes have stated that United are not currently interested in signing the striker, who has previously been valued at around £60 million.

The reporter explained that Brentford are ready to lower their asking price for Toney to less than £50 million due to a lack of interest and having already signed his replacement in Igor Thiago.

It was added that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all made it clear to Brentford that they have no plans to bid for him.

United will likely focus on strengthening once again at centre-back, as well as in midfield, before considering a move for another striker.
