Amid Rúben Amorim’s mass-clearout at Manchester United this summer, it is becoming increasingly complex to decipher who will be leaving Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s 2025 summer transfer window has already seen the club announce the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, with Bryan Mbeumo also indicating his interest in joining from Brentford.
Club captain Bruno Fernandes has also reaffirmed his interest in remaining under Rúben Amorim, despite a mega-contract offer from Saudi giants Al-Hilal, which will go a long way in convincing other players to join the project this summer.
However, should the deal for Mbeumo go through following Cunha, this pretty much sucks up United’s initial transfer budget, and to raise further funds.
The club are hoping to offload Jadon Sancho, Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Tyrell Malacia for over £100 million. The possible departure of Alejandro Garnacho could raise a further £60 million if the club’s demands are met.
Third United attacker could leave this summer
With Garnacho being informed by Amorim that he is free to find a new club this summer, Rasmus Højlund’s future at United is also in doubt after a poor season up front for the side.
According to the Manchester Evening News, 22-year-old Dane is being considered by Inter Milan this summer, with the Serie A giants wanting to rebuild their squad following Simone Inzaghi’s departure after the Champions League final 5-0 loss against Paris St. Germain.
However, the more interesting notion from this report is that, aside from Garnacho and Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee was named as a player who may well depart this summer.
The 23-year-old had a tough start to life at Old Trafford, as he had little time to gain fitness due to the lack of pre-season, and only began to grow into the player United initially signed once it reached 2025. However, he was then hit with a hamstring injury.
Amorim would rather keep Zirkzee this summer
According to reports from Italy last month, Zirkzee’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, had reached a “verbal agreement” with then-Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli to facilitate a move for the Dutchman to Turin this summer.

However, after Zirkzee managed to rebuild himself at United under Amorim, this agreement was cancelled. Giuntoli has since departed from his role at the Old Lady.
With Zirkzee no longer heading to Juventus, Amorim is said to want to keep the player this summer and “relaunch” him at Old Trafford next season, with a full pre-season under his belt and the striker in much better shape.
Although the striker has looked better playing as one of Amorim’s two inside forwards at points this season, the signing of Cunha and the hopeful pending acquisition of Mbeumo alongside Amad on the right flank has given hope that, when he is surrounded by higher quality in the final third, he can flourish as the central point of United’s attacking line.
