Thibaut Courtois issues Senne Lammens Man Utd debut verdict, Ruben Amorim agrees

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was quick to praise his Belgian counterpart Senne Lammens after a successful Manchester United debut.

Manchester United won convincingly against Sunderland at the weekend, marking the first time they have won three successive home games in the Premier League since 2023.

This will come as a major relief for manager Ruben Amorim, who’s position at the club had been under much scrutiny, with many feeling that a loss against their newly-promoted rivals would’ve sealed Amorim’s fate and led to his dismissal.

It was a convincing 2-0 win too, with United’s deadline day signing Senne Lammens proving his worth in net, keeping a clean sheet and stopping some tricky shots from the oposition.

Fans were vocal in their support for the 23-year-old, chanting “are you Schmeichel in disguise” referring to legendary ex-United keeper Peter Schmeichel.

Courtois vocal in his support for fellow Belgian

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was full of support for his fellow countryman, taking to Instagram to praise the Belgian.

This will be a welcome compliment for the young keeper, who would no doubt be ecstatic to receive praise from one of his country’s top talents.

This has been reflected by Lammens’ manager, as Amorim was full of praise for him at full time, saying after the game: “Senne did really well. We were a competitive and adult team today. We need to win these games with a clean sheet. Good for us.”

The Belgian didn’t have an easy game either, being called into action on a multitude of occasions, including a diving save against Granit Xhaka in the first half, and stopping a Chemsdine Talbi shot with his legs late on.

Mount also full of support

It wasn’t just the manager who was vocal in his support for the debutant, United’s first goal-scorer in the fixture, Mason Mount, was full of praise for him when interviewed after the game.

Mount said: “It’s important in the Premier League keeping clean sheets, you have chances to score and then to keep the clean sheet in the second half was so important.

“He was solid, when we were under pressure, the option was Ben [Sesko] and we worked off that. Buzzing for him, everyone was around him today, it can be tough making your first start we wat to be together and I felt that today so we keep moving forward.”

Hopefully, this will mark the start of a new era for United, who have struggled defensively in recent seasons, with the man-between-the-sticks coming under fire more often than most due to some high-profile errors.
