Alan Shearer has given his opinion regarding Ruben Amorim after Manchester United’s loss to Newcastle at the weekend, revealing whether he should be sacked.
This recent Sunday saw Manchester United travel up to face a red-hot Newcastle side that is chasing a Champions League spot, in a fixture that saw Ruben Amorim heavily rotate his reds.
With Amorim hoping that a change of goalkeeper would have brought a change in fortune, usual first choice André Onana was left out of the squad to give Altay Bayindir his first Premier league start.
This however didn’t go to plan as Newcastle ran rampant, and were handed a 4-1 win by a plethora of individual mistakes made by Amorim’s defence.
This has started to beg the question in the media as to whether the Portuguese manager is the man to take the Red Devils back to the promised land, which Alan Shearer weighed in on.
Shearer’s say on Amorim
Speaking on his ‘The Rest Is Football‘ podcast, the Newcastle fan was eager to point out United’s mistakes that made life so easy for his Magpies.
Shearer stated, “Newcastle were a much better team, and Man United, particularly second half, they couldn’t live with the intensity, with the pace and the power of Newcastle.”
He also added that Amorim’s side “kept on insisting, playing out from the back, and that sort of suited Newcastle down to the ground, and they punished them.”
A very jubilated Shearer was then asked about United, to which he brutally replied, “It’s going to take a long time and a lot of money to fix that football club,” which begged Gary Lineker to ask, “Do they stick with him or not?”
The BBC Pundit responded saying that, “they’re going to have to stick with him” before further adding, “they’re going to have to give him transfer, two or three transfer windows.”
Will United stick or twist?
With United now sitting in 14th, and on the verge of a record low Premier league goalscoring tally, questions have been asked of whether Amorim’s unique system is one that will benefit the club long-term.
However, speaking on the latest edition of ‘Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast‘, journalist Pete O’Rourke explained that it is very unlikely that United will part ways with their manager this summer.
Having spent £14.5 million to sack Erik ten Hag earlier in the campaign, this has caused financial restrictions that wouldn’t bode well if they were to sack Amorim in the same season.
Instead, United’s higher-ups aim to lean further into Amorim’s system by granting him time, and backing him with new players in the summer transfer window to help bring his philosophy some success.
